You may be wondering what happened after I made the decision to cut my last trip short while in Sedona. Surprisingly, and much to my disappointment, a few people who I considered to be close friends were not happy with my decision to turn back. Ultimately, once I crossed the pass at Mt Hood, I had done what I set out to do. I had planned an amazing trip, packed up all of my gear, mustered up the courage to swing a leg over my motorcycle, and head out on the solo adventure of a lifetime. At the end of the day, this trip was mine and, while a couple of people may have been living vicariously through me and wanted the adventure to continue, that was not their decision to make and I owe them no excuses. This did leave a bad taste in my mouth, which is why I didn’t continue to write about the trip.
To sum up the rest of my trip: I stopped in Bryce Canyon NP, Zion NP, Moab, Canyonlands NP, Arches NP, crossed a 27* snowy pass into Salt Lake City, on to Boise, and home. Zion was absolutely breathtaking! I rode just under 4000 miles and was on the road for over two weeks. The only close calls that I had were within 5 miles of home; I almost got hit by a car that ran a stop sign when I was about to get onto the St Johns bridge on my way out and had two cars pull out in front of me when I was just a couple of miles from arriving home.
