Don’t Spend Your Life Waiting…

Hey all! After losing my job just before Christmas, I decided to follow my mom’s last words to me before she passed, “Don’t spend your life waiting to do the things you really want to do…like I did.” Those words really struck a cord with me and the last part broke my heart.  Looking back, I realized that I had been doing just that, waiting to do the things that I wanted to do, thinking that it wasn’t the right time or I’d be better prepared some other time.

The words that my mom told me helped me through a very difficult time in my life and led me to leave my lifelong home of New England to move across the country to Portland, OR, where I knew no one and nothing, (I hadn’t even seen a single episode of Portlandia!) to reinvent myself and create a life to be proud of.

Since late December, I have been following my heart and have been building custom furniture, traveling to support my friends as they follow their dreams, and trying to figure out my own.

I’ve dreamed of driving cross country since I was a teenager but I’ve used school or work as an excuse to avoid living this adventure. Now that I have no excuse, it’s time to follow my mom’s words and “…do the things that I really want to do…”

I plan to leave my home in mid-April of 2017, ride my motorcycle South along the West Coast, East to Florida, North to Vermont, and back West to Oregon. My plan includes visits with friends scattered around the country and stops at many iconic National Parks, cities, and monuments, as well as the four corners of the Continental US.

  2. Right on! “You’ll never lie on your death bed & wish you had worked more”, were the words that set me on fire. I’m excited to read your adventure!
